I never intend on making these posts so dang long...
Wow, I can't believe I'm leaving LA in just over a week. It seems so final. I know I'll be back for visits but it's strange. I moved a lot in my lifetime but it gets harder when you're an adult.
So I've sent this link to some friends and hopefully they won't be too shy and will post comments on here. Trust me when I say that we'll love hearing from everyone!
Ok, so here's the tentative schedule:
Monday, June 6th, we leave the Santa Clarita Valley and head up the 14 freeway to the 138 and take that over to the 15 (I'm gonna have to get used to saying 'highway' names without the word "the" before them). It'll be hard for me to not continue up the 15 to Vegas but I'll do my best to get on I 40 in Barstow. Of course we'll have to drop in at the gigantic McDonalds that's right there.
We're skipping The Grand Canyon. I've seen it and ChristY isn't desperate to see it on this trip. So we'll be staying in Flagstaff the first night. I think we're pretty close to the NAU campus. I had a friend from high school go to NAU. I wonder if she's still around there.
Day two is a long freaking day. We're driving from Flagstaff to Amarillo, Tx. There is one place I'd like to see in Amarillo but I'll post specifics about it later. Just know it's one of those 'things to see' when you're driving cross country. It's not a giant ball of yarn but it's close.
Day three we leave I 40 and head on a small highway to Dallas where we'll pick up I 20. Just past Dallas is a town called Longview, Tx. where we'll be spending the night. I think that night would be a good night to go see Madagascar in a local theater. But I'm trying not to overplan the trip and let things happen naturally. Of course if we do decide to see a movie, I know the two closest theaters and have directions to get there. Just saying...
Day four we'll be driving through Shreveport, La. and Jackson, Ms. to get to Birmingham, Al. These are all new cities for me. We'll be staying in Birmingham that night. I found a neighborhood just next to the U. of Alabama at Birmingham called Five Points South that has the bars, restaurants and shops. It's funny 'cause the similar area in Columbia, S.C. is called Five Points. I wonder who used the name first.
Day five, aka June 10th, we drive through Atlanta and then head to Summerville, SC. It's my mom's birthday which is one of the main reasons we're hauling ass across the country instead of taking our time and seeing more of the sights. So when we get home, my new (albeit temporary) home, we'll shower, change, get spiffied up (which we're both very good at), and go out to dinner to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. HA! Just kidding mom! I know it's your, um, let's see 2005 minus 1946, right? Ok, carry the one, and subtract the...Wow! 59. You're old.
For the rest of June ChristY and I will be juggling temp jobs (hopefully) and trips throughout the southeast. So keep checking in on us. We'll be keeping track of all the cool stuff we see in addition to the plethora of mullets!!!
Heh. Every time I say the word 'plethora', that scene from Three Amigos pops in my head. "Jefe, would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?" "Yes El Guapo, you have a plethora." "Jefe, what is a plethora?"
