Bang!
Southerners love their fireworks. I really don't plan on being able to get much sleep tonight. They've been setting off fireworks since last week, I kid you not. So I went out front for a few minutes and enjoyed the loud sparkly stuff in the sky. When I was a kid I was deathly afraid of fireworks. Well fireworks and thunder. The fireworks I could see and understand but thunder reallly perplexed me. People used to tell me the cute stuff like the angels in heaven were just bowling or something to that effect. Then one day my friend's dad sat me down, pulled out volume "T" of the World Book encyclopedia and explained the science behind thunder. I got it and it didn't scare me nearly as much.
Anyway happy birthday of our country!

The whole neighborhood was setting off fireworks on Friday night, and I had the pleasure of seeing a fire truck go screaming down the street and stopping a couple blocks up because, I assume, somebody caught their '82 Ford pickup on fire. Sigh.

WHoohoo! GO Independence day!
We went and braved the crowds down on the National Mall- wonderful fireworks! It was really crowded... but we did get to hear the Beach boys and Gloria Estefan and the O'jays through some really bad speakers...
