It's 9 pm!!!

And I'm still awake. I'm very proud of myself. I'm gonna sleep well tonight, that's for sure.

Thanksgiving was good. Good food, good friends, good pie.

It feels weird to be here in LA. I can't figure it out yet either. I'm not sure if it feels like I've been gone a really long time or like I left yesterday. Part of it is very natural and then part of it is very strange.

"Ahhh, like Double Oh Seven, right?"

I work in the executive wing (fancy, eh?) of Bond Hall. So I'm telling this to a Taiwanese man who then chuckles and says, "Ahhh, like 007, right? Heh heh, Bond, James Bond." Yes, just like that. He made me think of that scene in Lost In Translation where they tell Bill Murray to be more like Bond. Of course their idea of Bond was 'Loger Moore' who we all know is ranked about 3rd.

Our new president has a mono-brow. I don't know if I'm OK with that.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

A girl can dream...

If anyone ever wins the lottery and has a deep desire to buy me something special, send me to Tokyo on this. That would be so freaking fun! Yes, I'm 30, shut up!

There are some pics on this site that give you a better idea of what travelers experience.

Miss Alisa

I'm feeling very girlie today. I'm wearing cute little heels with a black and pink polka dot skirt (that's got good flair) and a pink sweater. Mostly I end up feeling like a lumberjack without an ax but today I feel very feminine. I should be sipping a cosmo or constatly reapplying lipgloss. All I'm missing today are the pearls.

Woof, y'all!!!

It looks like my parents' dog, KC, is coming to live with me in South Carolina. My parents believe that she'll be happier here for some reason. The main thought being that since I go to my grandmother's on the weekend, and there's a big backyard, that KC will be able to get more exercise out there. They live in a very nice apartment but there's nowhere for KC to just run. She's older and a lot less work than the dog that was supposed to be mine, Gus. My roommate is very excited about having a dog so that's good. She was all giddy about being able to tell people she has a dog now. I'm a little wary of the responsibility though. I'm sure it'll be fine but it does change my life a bit. But KC is such a sweet dog. What's cool too is that my roommate, Liz, tends to have a weird schedule so there will be lots of times that she's home during the day and KC won't be all alone. AND...this will get me back outside and walking her 2x a day.

Finding humor in the south

My friend Ann has me thinking about movie quotes. I have two favorites:

"She wouldn't piss on your gums if your teeth were on fire."

"Now that's a real shame when folks be throwin' away a perfectly good white boy, like that." (Better Off Dead is full of awesomely quotable one liners).

There's a woman who works here named Ann Sass. Say it real fast and you'll know why I chuckle.

Other than that, there ain't much to laugh about down here. People take things very seriously.

Ugh

People here say Oriental instead of Asian. It makes my skin crawl. I also find that they pronounce the 'L' in the word salmon. Yikes. There are a few cadets of hispanic origin and I cringe every time someone tries to pronounce their last name.

Other than that, things here are fine. My grandmother is in the house and finally has it all to herself. My cousin, her hubby, their kids Cade (2) and Zoe (7 mo.), their dogs Lucy (aka Pigs) and Oliver (aka Doodle) are all settled into their house. I'm loving my new house and my roommate is great. Plus I'm only a few minutes from my cousin's house so I'm going to enjoy that. We have a standing date to eat foreign food and watch Desperate Housewives on Sunday nights. That'll be fun.

I went up to DC this past weekend and enjoyed an 80s themed costume party with some of my nearest and dearest. We had one laugh after another the entire time. I love those people. So to Ann, Ash and Katie (and their spouses)...I LOVE YOU!!!!
