Curing rabies

Hoooooooly crap! The Office was so freaking funny last night. It really is one of the most clever shows on TV. I was laughing the entire time. I jumped when he hit Meredith at the beginning. Of course we then rewound it and played it over and over.

Happy hour was fine. Ms. Perfect never showed but I got to meet my friend Debra's best friend from college who is also from Jersey so that was cool. I'm a lightweight now. Halfway thru beer #2 I realized I had a decent buzz. As Ann has pointed out a low tolerance is not only cost effective but easier on the liver. Here, here!

This morning my curling iron got a wee bit too close to my forehead. Ok, yes, contact was made and now there is a mark. It doesn't hurt though so that's good.

I'd like to give a birthday shout out to my homegirl, Ann. WASSUP BABY! Happy Birthday and many more to come!

PEACE

All dressed up...

...and nowhere to go.

I'm supposed to be going to happy hour with a couple of friends from work. Actually one girl is a friend and the other is someone I've avoided like the plague. I hate her on principal. She's tall, blond, tan (naturally and not spray on), and overall just very striking (but not classically beautiful). The worst part is that she's really sweet and friendly. Oh and her family has money and like, does good with it. Ugh. You hate her too, right?

I'm not entirely sure where we're going. There was some discussion but no decisions have been made. Yes, it's 7am and we have like 9 hours to figure it out but I like to plan ahead. The planning involves which drink special will get me the drunkest after just one. Anyway I have to be honest and say that I'm not really looking forward to it. No, not because of that girl. I'm actually going to give her a chance because I suspect she's actually as sweet as she seems. There are a handfull of reasons I'm apprehensive but I'm going to not let it keep me from having a good time. Plus my makeup is flawless today and why shouldn't I share that with the folks at whichever bar has the best half-price happy hour from 5-7?

cuchi cuchi

Apparently AOL thinks I am of the latina persuasion. All my ads on AOL are in Espanol. Yes, I'm spicy. But I don't think my computer had any way of knowing that.

Somebody has a case of the MONDAYS!

Monday mornings stink. I'm so sleepy and for no real reason. I was even asleep before my regular time last night. Oh, and I had a nap yesterday. Ok, the nap lasted about 10 minutes but that should have helped. I think it's just Mondays. Luckily it's absolutely freezing in my office or else I'd be asleep on my desk. It's hard to fall asleep when you're shivering.

Anywhoodle, my weekend was pretty standard. But now I have something to look forward to. Yes party people, fall TV is underway. I know there are many of us who watch How I Met Your Mother on Monday nights but see if you can give Chuck a chance too. I saw the pilot out at ComicCon and fell in love.

My mom cut my hair on Saturday. I can notice that there are 2 inches off but no one else will. She actually made it look pretty straight. I'm very impressed. My mom rocks.

He's gonna get me in trouble

There's a cute boy in my class named Michael. Michael was also in one of my classes this past spring. He has a beard and lately I've had a thing for beards. I'm not talking a full, mountain man beard or the ZZ Top kind either. It's a subtle but well-kept beard. Anywhoodle, he sits next to me and he's a very funny guy. He'd make a comment which would then make me giggle. Of course he's only saying it loud enough for me to hear so I'm the goofball giggling in the back. This professor called on me once because I was studying my cuticles (my nails are fabulous right now). I swear the time when, "Alisa, would you like to share what's so funny with the rest of the class?" is coming.

Oh and I have always had kind of a dirty mind. I blame having access to cable television since I was 5 but I digress. So last night we're discussing mental retardation. The professor is telling us about the training needed to help mentally retarded people fit into society. She had mentioned job training, how to use public transportation, etc. At one point she had mentioned something about how all this helps with self-esteem. Then she said something about self-satisfaction. Well when I hear self-satisfaction, my dirty mind goes, you know, *there*. I quickly banished the thought and scolded my brain for being in the gutter (my inner monologue was tough last night). Then she says, "Yes, there are a lot of mentally retarded people who need to know it is not alright to masturbate in public whenever and wherever the mood strikes." I'm telling you, the entire class stopped what they were writing, looked up with slight shock and then went back to writing.

Nothing to blog, nothing to blog

La la la...nothing to blog. Instead I'll share two of my favorite poems by Ms. Dorothy Parker.

Please know that I am doing this from memory! Oooooohhhhhh...Aaaaahhhhhh

Unfortunate Coincidence
By the time you swear you're his,
Shivering and sighing,
And he vows his passion is infinite, undying-
Lady, make a note of this:
One of you is lying.

Inventory
Four be the things I am wiser to know:
Idleness, sorrow, a friend and a foe.

Four be the things I'd been better without:
Love, curiosity, freckles and doubt.

Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content and sufficient champagne.

Three be the things I shall have til I die:
Laughter and hope and a sock in the eye.

I think I've posted these before but I can't remember if they were on this blog or the other one.

Tina Fey is my hero!

I watched an hour of the Emmys last night and I thought Seacrest did fine. I liked a lot of the dresses too but there were a few missteps. I FauxVo'd the entire show and will watch it tonight. From the recaps I'm seeing this morning, it almost looked like an entertaining show. Though I'm hearing they edited some people's speeches. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find out that 30 Rock won for best comedy series. Of course I always want The Office to win but if they're going to lose to 30 Rock then I'm ok with that.

I've been making a point to wash my face more and take better care of my skin. So I think I'm being punished because I'm breaking out more. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I've got on a favorite pair of shoes. They make my feet look small but they also hurt when I'm not sitting down. I'm going to lunch with one of the adjuncts today and will resort to putting on my flip flops to walk across campus. I'm a wuss.

If you're gonna spew, spew into this

Thanks to one of my higher maintenance adjuncts, I will have a stream of sweaty, smelly knobs in my office this morning. It's not a good guy smell either. It's the 'I've been running outside in this muggy humidity and had absolutely no time for a shower before I got dressed in uniform' smell. I don't even want to think about what their rooms smell like. The smell is not good, not good at all. One of them was even sneezing on stuff. Oh and they're all using my stapler. I'm going to need a large can of Lysol...STAT. I'm seriously on the verge of hurling.

My own private rebellion

I've worn pink every day this week. I have three pink tops and I've worn one each day so far. I'm now out of pink tops so the question is whether I'll get up tomorrow and put on my pink skirt. Oooh! I have two pink skirts that will get me through the end of the week. Maybe I'm reacting to the sea of gray and (army) green that I drown in every day.

Soccer, as experienced by an unwilling 4 year old

(If you click on the photos they should get bigger)
I don't wanna!

If I face the wrong way maybe they'll disappear

Are we playing soccer or pretending to be airplanes? (Plus what's with #5's shorts?)

This is better. (that's his sister, Zoe, in the background. Check out those curls!)

Mmmmmm

Professor Swoon just came in, greeted me and left again. He smells sooooooo good. As the door shut behind him I literally took in a long, drawn out breath. He has a light scent of something (aftershave, cologne, whatever) but I want to stress the light part. I really enjoy a man who smells fresh and clean and not like he's using a scent to cover up the fact that he was too lazy to shower.

The early morning weather is finally down around 70 so it's cool enough to get outside for some exercise. Well I set my alarm 45 minutes early so that I could get up, go outside and walk in a brisk manner. I slept right through my alarm and woke up when I normally wake up. I'll try again tomorrow. Hey, at least I had the intention of exercise. That's a step in the right direction. Right? Right? Anyone?

The weekend was good. We went to Cade's soccer game which was quite amusing. I'll post the pictures tomorrow. And yes, there were two balls kicked into the wrong team's goal. It's a good thing they don't actually keep score. Poor Cade did not enjoy himself out on the field. He was much more content sitting on my lap, pointing out butterflies and asking which car we came in. That kid is a romantic and a gear head. I'm totally ok with that because he's going to make some woman with perpetual car troubles very, very happy.

Because I can't think of anything to write about

It's gonna be a good thing

I have a good feeling about this job. I hope I'm right. So far things are going well. There's a lot more to know but that's ok. It's been kind of slow the past couple of days but I need to make better use of my time. Oh and there are three guys who I plan to have alternating crushes on.

I got a scare yesterday. My phone rang and it was someone who worked across the hall from me. She asked who that guy was that I was "friends" with when I first started. I panicked and asked why she was asking. She said she saw him coming out of the office and thought he was maybe headed over here. I asked her more about it and figured out it wasn't my ex-"friend" but another guy who visited often. I breathed a big sigh of relief.

I have class tonight and forgot my textbook and notebook. At least I have a pen! It's kind of obvious that I'm not into this class at all. I hope we didn't have to turn anything in tonight. I'd check my syllabus but that's in my notebook.

On a happier note, my friend Sarah and her husband Mike are in town. Sarah and I used to work at Aon together and I'm so excited to see them. They're staying downtown and I hope they like Charleston as much as I do. This weekend they'll go down to Hilton Head and do a day trip to Savannah. It sounds like a great vacation. But before they head down there I was thinking they should see parade on Friday afternoon.

My morning radio saga continues

I was all set. I was really enjoying the morning program even though they were syndicated and lacked what's nice about local programs. I was back to listening to either woxy.com, xm (via AOL) or yahoo radio at work. All was well with my (music) world. I should have known. I should suspected that it was too good to be true.

A brief reminder: I moved here and found a great station, 96 Wave, that played alternative type music that was popular both when I was in college and the popular stuff now. The morning show, Storm & Kenny were great and a welcomed change from what I listened to in L.A. Plus there was very little Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then Storm & Kenny were fired. They moved the afternoon DJ to the morning which was ok for a while. Then he got moved again and they picked up the syndicated Free Beer & Hot Wings. At first I was pissed but I finally gave in and by doing so fell for FB & HW.

Then Friday happened. I was driving home and about to make a stop at the grocery store. It was 4:50pm. Suddenly I'm hearing the Charles In Charge theme song over and over and over and over. No joke. It would end and start all over again. Let me tell you, that is an ear-bug of a song if ever I heard one. It gets stuck in your brain and does not get out. So I park my car, and go into the store hearing "A new boy in the neighborhood, lives downstairs and it's understood. He's there just to take good care of mee, like he's one of the fa-muh-leeee...." EVERYONE! "Charles in Charge..." Ok, I'll stop. Anyway, I get back to my car and there's a voice saying that 96 Wave is now 96.1 Chuck FM. Playing what YOU want. Blah, blah, blah. I've heard this before. It was back in L.A. on 93.1 Jack FM. I liked Jack FM a lot but it was a nice alternate to my regular alternative rock station. Here I am in Charleston and the nice alternate has taken over my regular alternative rock station. NOOOOOOO!!!

This morning I'm scanning the stations to see if maybe they've moved FB & HW. I find them (a 'best of' show since it's Labor Day) on 104.1 but the reception is bad. I figure I'm probably listening to the Myrtle Beach station that carries them and I find out that I'm right. The station does not come in steadily during my drive to work. WHAT NOW???

I need a mix of a funny talk show with good music in the morning. In the afternoon I prefer just music so I can sing along whilest sitting in traffic. But in the mornings I need to laugh a little.
